Ronney Jenkins
SCHOOL: Hueneme
SPORT: Track and field
YEAR: Junior
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Jenkins won the Ventura County title in the long jump as a freshman with a leap of 22 feet 7 1/4 inches, but decided not to compete last year because Bill Hayes wasn’t coaching at Hueneme. Hayes returned to coaching this year and Jenkins has leaped 22-11 1/2 or further in five meets.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Jenkins won the 100 meters in 11.1 seconds and the long jump at 23-3 in a meet against Rio Mesa and Oxnard last Wednesday, then spanned a personal best of 23-9 1/2 to place second in the Arcadia Invitational at Arcadia High on Saturday night. Although Jenkins ranks fourth on the all-time Ventura County list in the long jump, he expects to go substantially further before the end of the season. “I think I can go around 24-8,” he said. “That’s far, but I feel like there’s a lot more there.”
