ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
- Share via
Andre Stewart
Newport Harbor, football
Stewart lost two fumbles on the first three possessions, but the Sailors kept giving him the ball, and Stewart, a 5-9, 160-pound senior tailback, kept chewing up yardage, helping the Sailors win a Sea View League showdown against Laguna Hills, 27-10. He carried 38 times for 310 yards, scored on a two-yard touchdown run and helped the No. 3 Sailors remain unbeaten.
* Chris Meyer
Canyon, water polo
Scored his team’s first seven goals as Canyon beat No. 10 Laguna Hills, 11-9, to win the Canyon tournament.
* Rudy Acosta
Loara, football
Had a school-record three interceptions, including a 70-yard touchdown, to lead the Saxons over Cypress, 49-32.
Shelly Raworth
Villa Park, golf
Raworth, a junior, appears to be peaking at the right time. Last week, she fired a two-under-par 34 at the Green River Orange Course in a victory over Orange. The mark set a school record, breaking the previous school record (37), which she held, by three strokes. She had five birdies, one par and three bogeys. Raworth is averaging 39.8 strokes for each nine-hole match.
* Kellie Cramm
Laguna Beach, volleyball
Cramm showed why she is a top county veteran, earning most valuable player honors at the Redondo tournament.
* Lori Mann
Santa Margarita, cross-country
The junior finished fifth in the team sweepstakes race at the Mt. SAC Invitational with county-best time of 18:20.40.
