Two teenage girls were arrested after allegedly trying to leave a supermarket with almost $600 of baby food concealed in an empty stroller, Orange County Sheriff’s Department officials said Tuesday.
The manager of Ralphs market on Portola Parkway told deputies that two girls entered the store Sunday and used a towel to conceal 33 cans of baby formula tucked inside the carriage, said Deputy Fred Furey of the Lake Forest sheriff’s substation. The manager reported that the girls fled when confronted by store employees, but then returned with the stroller Monday morning, Furey said.
The girls tried to leave after an employee stopped them at the door and asked to look inside their carriage, Furey said. Store employees detained the girls in the parking lot.
