Rhinos Returned to Park Devastated by Poachers

Kenya’s Wildlife Service and the International Fund for Animal Welfare began moving eight white rhinoceroses into Meru National Park, a reserve once ravaged by poachers.
The last white rhino in the park was removed in 1989 after poachers killed the rest of them there. Since then, international donors and Kenyan authorities have improved facilities and security at the park.
“With the restocking of key species, such as rhino, Meru National Park is now being given a new lease on life after almost all its wildlife was wiped out by poaching and disease,” said Michael Wamithi, the fund’s director for East Africa.
