Police Officer Sentenced for Anthrax Hoax

A U.S. Capitol police officer who staged an anthrax hoax in the Cannon House Office building at the height of the anthrax scare was sentenced to two years’ probation for making a false statement to police.
James J. Pickett, 36, of Stafford, Va., poured a sugar substitute onto a desk Nov. 7, 2001, after the Hart Senate Office Building was closed when anthrax spores were found in letters.
