Male Lion Kills Female as Zoo Visitors Watch

A male lion attacked and killed a female lion in the outdoor exhibit they have shared for 15 months, Sacramento Zoo officials said.
Aslan, the male lion, wrapped his jaws around the throat of 14-year-old Massina on Friday, suffocating her, said Mary Healy, the zoo’s director.
Zoo visitors who witnessed the killing thought the lions were playing, she said.
“This is really a reminder of how powerful these animals are, and how unpredictable their behavior can be at times,” she said.
