Arrests Foiled Other Slayings, Officials Say

Dutch prosecutors accused 12 men of threatening to kill prominent politicians critical of Islam and said the suspects’ arrests after the slaying of an outspoken filmmaker had foiled other attacks.
The men, mostly of Moroccan descent, were arrested after the Nov. 2 killing of film director Theo van Gogh. They are charged with belonging to a criminal group and conspiring to murder with “terrorist intent.”
The men allegedly threatened to kill Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a politician with whom Van Gogh made a film accusing Islam of condoning violence against women. They are also accused of threatening an anti-immigration populist, Amsterdam’s Jewish mayor and his deputy.
