A $100,000 pair of diamond earrings was stolen from a locked storage case at the Neiman Marcus store at the Stanford Shopping Center, but investigators are not sure how or when the jewelry disappeared, officials said.
The disappearance of the dime-sized diamonds was discovered May 27 during a routine inventory, Palo Alto Police Sgt. John Costa said Friday.
There was no evidence of a break-in, and investigators have not ruled out shoplifting or theft by an employee, Costa said.
The earrings were believed to have been taken between May 25 and May 27. Police were reviewing surveillance video.
