Ahmadinejad will attend Gulf summit

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will attend a summit of Gulf Arab states that starts Monday, the first time Iran has been invited to take part in a meeting of the group, a senior presidential aide said.
The Gulf Cooperation Council comprises Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar -- allies of the United States and largely Sunni Muslim countries that have long been wary of their Shiite neighbor across the Gulf.
The Islamic Republic’s state-owned newspaper quoted aide Mojtaba Samareh-Hashemi as saying Ahmadinejad would attend the meeting in Doha, Qatar.
