Musical disgrace

BRAVO to Mark Swed for his inspired article on Gustavo Dudamel and the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela [“Absolutely Revelatory,” Nov. 3]. The lack of music in our public schools is disgraceful. No Child Left Behind is a mockery concerning any of the arts. Generations are growing up lacking civilization’s cultural touchstones that feed the spirit and soul. Shame on all of us.
