Blue Jays avoid sweep

Toronto 7, at New York 6: Ricky Romero extended his scoreless streak to 24 innings before Eric Hinske homered in his Yankees debut, and the Blue Jays avoided being swept in a four-game series. Romero (7-3) tied the team rookie record for consecutive shutout innings set by Mark Eichhorn in 1986 before Hinske homered in the fifth.
Kansas City 4, at Detroit 3: Mike Jacobs hit a go-ahead solo homer in the ninth for the Royals. Willie Bloomquist drove in three runs for the Royals, connecting on a home run in the sixth and a two-run triple in the eighth. Detroit’s Ryan Raburn homered in the sixth and had a run-scoring double in the eighth, making it 3-3.
at Seattle 5, Baltimore 0: Jarrod Washburn tossed a one-hitter for the win. Nick Markakis had the only hit against Washburn (4-5), a two-out single in the fourth.
at Angels 9, Texas 4: Jeff Mathis hit a go-ahead three-run homer.
